Armenia may host Aliyev, Erdoğan next spring

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly that the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have been invited to Yerevan to participate in the 8th summit of the European Political Community scheduled for next spring.

“The invitations are still verbal; we haven’t sent official documents yet,” the minister noted, as reported by Auroranews.am.

He added that the summit's organizational work is still underway and the official invitation process will begin soon.

When asked how their visit might be perceived in Armenia, Mirzoyan responded, “Today, it’s hard to imagine Aliyev’s visit, but in a month and a half, the situation could be different,” according to Pastinfo.

“There’s been conflict, bloodshed. Our generation has grown up within a narrative where that country is the enemy, and indeed, there has been real enmity. But peace is not built between friendly nations. Peace comes between hostile societies, between those who have been in conflict. We’re not an exception. Many countries have gone through this, and we must be able to do the same. We’ve already taken significant steps in that direction, though there’s still a lot to do.

Why is Erdoğan’s visit to Yerevan so hard to imagine when Prime Minister Pashinyan has already visited Ankara? As for Aliyev, it may seem unimaginable today, but agree that things could change in a month and a half. Though I don’t deny that it’s still hard to imagine Pashinyan visiting Baku today. But time will pass, and whether it’s one month, one year, or ten years, this situation will eventually change,” he said.

The 8th European Political Community summit is planned for spring 2026 in Yerevan, with the participation of leaders from European Union member states and partner countries.
