On October 30, Armenia’s Defense Minister Suren Papikyan and Chairman of the Investigative Committee Artur Poghosyan visited the country’s southeastern border zone to monitor progress on engineering and fortification efforts.
As part of the visit, the officials also inspected frontline military positions, met with on-duty soldiers, and assessed the operational situation on the ground.
Several servicemen were awarded certificates of appreciation and valuable gifts from both Papikyan and Poghosyan in recognition of their dedicated service.
Starting January 1, 2026, Armenia’s mandatory military service term will be reduced from two years to one and a half years. The government approved the draft law amending the Law on Military Service and the Status of Servicemen. The reduction is made possible due to the expansion of the contract-based military service system.
