Yerevan metro expansion to get AMD 5.5 billion in 2026

Armenia’s 2026 state budget will allocate 5.5 billion drams for the renovation and expansion of Yerevan’s metro system, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan announced in parliament, Sputnik Armenia reports.

Of the total amount, 2 billion drams are earmarked for the construction of a new metro station under the “Urban Development Program,” which has an overall value of approximately 16.6 billion drams.

An additional 2.5 billion drams will go toward metro infrastructure renovation, while 1 billion drams are designated for implementing passenger transport services.

Khudatyan also noted that the next major infrastructure project is the construction of the Isakov-Arshakunyats road segment, with 7 billion drams in funding.

Earlier this year, Yerevan Municipality announced that the design phase for the Ajapnyak metro station was nearing completion, with construction expected to start by late 2025 or early 2026.

Design work began in 2022 by the Russian firm Metrogiprotrans. The total cost of the station is estimated at $250 million, with construction projected to take about five years.
