Aliyev wants Armenia to follow his agenda, says Abrahamyan

In a Facebook post, MP Tigran Abrahamyan from the "I Have Honor" parliamentary faction commented on the recent remarks by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, stating that Aliyev’s territorial ambitions toward Armenia aim to push the Armenian leadership into his political timeline.

“By expressing territorial claims against Armenia, the Azerbaijani president is trying to fit the Pashinyan administration into his timetable. Well aware of how essential false peace gestures are during electoral processes, Aliyev warns Pashinyan: if he fails to act with urgency and meet downgraded demands on time, Baku will voice bitter truths,” Abrahamyan wrote.

He added that in General Staff maps and propaganda materials circulated in Azerbaijan, Armenia is often depicted without Syunik and Vayots Dzor provinces, while Gegharkunik, Tavush, and Ararat are shown in distorted forms.

“I’m not saying Azerbaijan will launch a war tomorrow, next month, or in a year. However, from the standpoint of Azerbaijan’s strategic planning, a fully sovereign and integral Armenia is not envisioned in our region,” Abrahamyan concluded.

Earlier, President Aliyev claimed that Russian imperial maps from the early 20th century clearly show that nearly all place names in modern-day Armenia have Azerbaijani origins.

“There is no Lake Sevan, only Lake Goycha. These maps weren’t made by us but by Tsarist Russia, which once resettled Armenians from Iran and Eastern Anatolia to Karabakh to change the region’s ethnic makeup,” Aliyev stated.
