During the “Building Peace and Multilateral Cooperation” conference in Yerevan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that he has officially invited Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to attend the 2026 European Political Community (EPC) summit scheduled to take place in May in Yerevan.
“Armenia–Turkey relations are on the right track. I’ve met with President Erdoğan several times in recent years. I’ve visited Turkey twice: once in a bilateral format on a working visit, which I consider very successful. During that visit, I invited President Erdoğan to the 2026 EPC summit in Yerevan,” Pashinyan said, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
He added: “It wouldn’t be appropriate to comment on the possibility of his visit, but I can say that the invitation was official, and I hope it will be accepted.”
According to Pashinyan, institutional communication between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey has become regular and structured in recent times.
Armenia and Turkey have not had diplomatic relations since 1991, and Turkey closed the border in 1993 on Ankara’s initiative. In December 2021, both countries appointed special envoys to lead normalization talks.
In September 2024, Pashinyan and Erdoğan met at the Turkish House in New York, reaffirming their commitment to the normalization process. In 2025, Turkish envoy Serdar Kılıç visited Armenia and met Armenian envoy Ruben Rubinyan at the Margara border checkpoint.
