Births, marriages decline in Armenia in 2025

As of October 1, 2025, Armenia's permanent population stood at 3,090,500, including 1,977,400 urban and 1,113,100 rural residents, according to the Statistical Committee’s newly released report, “Socio-Economic Situation of the Republic of Armenia in January–September 2025.”

The report shows that 23,698 births were recorded from January to September 2025, which is 1,244 fewer than the same period in 2024 (24,942), as reported by Sputnik Armenia.

During the same period, 19,064 deaths were registered, slightly above the 18,959 deaths recorded in 2024. The leading causes of death remained circulatory system diseases, cancers, and respiratory issues.

No maternal deaths were reported in January–September 2025, compared to six cases in the same period of 2024, which were linked to pregnancy complications, childbirth, or postpartum conditions.

Marriage numbers also declined: 10,238 couples married in the first nine months of 2025, compared to 11,696 in 2024. Meanwhile, divorces rose slightly to 3,617, up from 3,422 the previous year.

“In 2025, there were 353 divorces per 1,000 marriages, compared to 293 in the same period of 2024,” the committee noted.

The male-to-female birth ratio remained unchanged from last year at 110 boys per 100 girls.

From January to September 2025, a total of 3,919,800 entries into Armenia were recorded through border checkpoints, including 1,646,600 by individuals using Armenian documents. At the same time, 3,908,400 people left the country, including 1,649,400 Armenian passport holders.
