Moscow plans more wheat deliveries to Armenia by rail

Russia’s Ministry of Transport has announced that by the end of January 2026, an additional 132 wagons of wheat will be delivered to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory.

"The first batch of grain was delivered to Armenia by rail via Azerbaijan. Russian Railways organized the shipment of over 1,000 tons of wheat from Dimitrovgrad station in Russia’s Ulyanovsk region. By the end of January 2026, 132 more wagons of wheat are expected to be sent via this route," the ministry said, according to RIA Novosti.

It added that the possibility of supplying other categories of cargo is also under consideration.

According to the ministry, this new logistics route became possible after Azerbaijan lifted its ban on transiting goods to Armenia.

“This is the first such shipment since the 1990s,” the ministry noted.

The train, consisting of 15 wagons loaded with Russian wheat, reached Armenia via Azerbaijan and Georgia. Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced the lifting of all restrictions on cargo transit to Armenia. The first such shipment was Kazakh wheat. In response, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared that Armenia would also lift restrictions on transit to Azerbaijan.
