Acharian’s 150th birthday listed on UNESCO calendar

The 43rd session of UNESCO’s General Conference in Samarkand has decided to include the 150th anniversary of Hrachya Acharian (1876–1953), a renowned Armenian linguist and academician, in its 2026–2027 calendar of Celebrations of Prominent Personalities and Important Events.

Also included is the 100th anniversary of the start of construction of Yerevan’s Republic Square (1927), the Armenian Foreign Ministry reports.

Since 1998, a total of 31 anniversaries proposed by Armenia have been included in UNESCO’s calendar of Celebrations of Prominent Personalities and Events.
