Arman Tatoyan, head of the political initiative Wings of Unity, stated that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent comments on returning Artsvashen actually imply leaving many citizens homeless. He shared his views in a Facebook livestream.
Tatoyan argued that serious strategic security threats are at stake.
“Pashinyan’s bold statement about returning Artsvashen is, in fact, about making many people homeless. He has gained experience with this, starting with the case of Artsakh, and has become skilled at using the word ‘return’ instead of ‘surrender’ in such cases,” he said.
According to Tatoyan, since 2020, Baku has intensified its push for control over Tigranashen, Artsvashen, and certain enclaves and villages in Tavush through exchanges and concessions. Pashinyan and his party members have increasingly echoed this discourse.
“In reality, this is a plan to encircle all of Armenia, destroy its borders, and fragment the country. From a strategic security standpoint, irreversible problems will arise,” Tatoyan warned.
He added that through the delimitation process, pastures, hayfields, and land plots could fall under Azerbaijani control, including critical communication and water infrastructure. One of Armenia’s main interstate roads may even become blocked.
Earlier, Pashinyan wrote: “As a result of delimitation, we must regain Artsvashen and other occupied sovereign territories of Armenia.” He previously stated that the enclave issue cannot be removed from the agenda as long as the fate of Artsvashen remains unresolved.
