U.S. official in Armenia to discuss Trump Route project

A Allison Hooker, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, has arrived in Armenia to discuss the implementation of the Trump Route initiative in Syunik Province, the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan announced.

Her visit focuses on the project’s progress, U.S.-Armenia agreements, and areas of cooperation outlined in the strategic partnership framework signed earlier this year.

“Ambassador Kvien welcomed U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Alison Hooker to Yerevan, who is here to advance the U.S. President’s vision for regional peace and security,” the Embassy said.

Hooker is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan, and Special Envoy Ruben Rubinyan. Discussions will focus on strengthening U.S.-Armenia strategic cooperation, especially under the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity and bilateral memorandums.

The Trump Route was officially endorsed in Washington by Armenian, Azerbaijani, and U.S. leaders Nikol Pashinyan, Ilham Aliyev, and Donald Trump.

Trump stated: “Infrastructure development is expected. American companies are eager to invest heavily, which will bring economic benefits to all three countries.”

On September 11, Pashinyan clarified that Armenia had not leased land to the U.S. for 99 years, but had instead granted development rights.
