Allison Hooker, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan to honor the victims, the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute reported.
Hooker was welcomed on site by the museum’s director, Edita Gzoyan. The senior official, accompanied by a delegation, laid flowers at the eternal flame and toured the memorial grounds.
The delegation also paused at commemorative stones honoring Henry Morgenthau, former U.S. Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire during the genocide, and Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross.
Both Morgenthau and Barton played key roles in implementing humanitarian programs for the Armenian people during the genocide.
Earlier, the U.S. Embassy had announced that Allison Hooker arrived in Yerevan to promote the U.S. President’s vision for regional peace and security.
“Discussions will focus on advancing Armenian-American strategic partnership under the ‘Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity’ initiative and related bilateral agreements,” the embassy stated.
