Alik Aleksanyan, a member of the Our Way movement, has condemned the revocation of Electric Networks of Armenia’s (ENA) license, calling it a “repressive action devoid of legality.”
“Given this government’s behavior, it was clear this was their plan,” Aleksanyan said during a protest in front of the Anti-Corruption Court in support of businessman Samvel Karapetyan, Panorama.am reported.
The court is currently holding a hearing on a motion to extend Karapetyan’s pre-trial detention by another two months.
Aleksanyan noted the hearing has lasted for three days. “Lawyer Davit Ghazinyan has presented facts and arguments, but the court has no response,” he said, adding that Karapetyan has now been in “illegal detention for over 150 days.”
“These violations continue. In Armenia, justice is still being delivered through text messages and Facebook statuses,” Aleksanyan remarked.
Hayk Mamijanyan, head of the I Have Honor parliamentary faction, was also present and said he expects nothing from the court but stands by political prisoners, asserting that Karapetyan is one of them.
Mamijanyan, responding to the license revocation by the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC), emphasized that “neither stripping ENA’s license nor his unlawful detention will affect Samvel Karapetyan’s determination.”
He added that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan holds all administrative, legal, and enforcement tools, while the opposition is driven solely by patriotic motives.
“When we all unite to show Pashinyan that he and his circle are a marginal group with no legitimacy to represent Armenia, only then will we reach a resolution,” Mamijanyan declared.
The PSRC has revoked ENA’s license from Tashir Capital. Over the next three months, it will negotiate with the company’s board of directors on transferring ownership rights of the network. If no agreement is reached, the state may claim ownership based on public interest.
