Publicist: political arena plagued by impudence

Screenwriter and publicist Tigran Paskevichyan stated during a public forum titled “The government's assault on constitutional freedoms and our response” that even political issues must be addressed through legal means.

“Considering the arrogance and impudence that dominates the political field, we are left only with legal solutions, the legal path,” he said, as reported by Panorama.am.

Paskevichyan also referred to a recent incident. He recounted that while returning from Syunik to Yerevan last Sunday, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was attending a liturgy in the village of Khachik.

“There were patrols and police along the entire route. This is a certain expense the state incurs for the whim of one person to attend church. This should become a subject of public debate.

Why should one person, who claims to be a follower of the Armenian Apostolic Church—fine, let him be—use such immense resources at our expense? There are many such cases of enormous spending,” he said.

Previously, Prime Minister Pashinyan had twice attended liturgies held by a defrocked priest not recognized by the Mother See in Hovhannavank. On November 9, he attended a service by Father Tadevos in Talin, and on November 16, one at the Holy Mother of God Church in Khachik village.
