Speaking after a document exchange ceremony with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev praised the Armenian leader’s “historic role” and “brave steps” in pursuit of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"Your visionary and courageous actions for stability and peace in the South Caucasus deserve praise. I wish you success in this highly responsible work, for Armenia’s development and for raising your country’s international standing," Tokayev said, according to 1lurer.am.
He emphasized that Kazakhstan is ready to support Armenia and strengthen bilateral ties. "Let our Armenian-Kazakh relations grow even stronger," Tokayev added.
He also noted that the two countries are taking concrete steps toward launching a direct flight between Yerevan and Astana. "One of the main tasks is to establish direct air connections. We already have concrete plans, and I hope relevant measures will be taken soon," he said, as reported by Armenpress.
Tokayev further remarked that Kazakhstan and Armenia share aligned positions on complex global issues and that Kazakhstan aims to deepen cooperation, including support for plans backed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Earlier in the day, Pashinyan was officially welcomed in Astana. One of the city’s central streets has been named after Mesrop Mashtots. The Armenian prime minister is also expected to meet with Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and the Speaker of the Mazhilis, Yerlan Koshanov.
