OpenAI eyes collaboration with Armenia

Armenia’s ambassador to the U.S., Narek Mkrtchyan, met with OpenAI’s Vice President of Global Business, Nate Harbacek, and Ivy Lao-Schindewolf from the company’s international policy and partnerships division, the Armenian Embassy reported.

During the meeting, OpenAI’s representatives stated that they will soon deliver a formal collaboration proposal to the Armenian side. The talks explored practical applications of artificial intelligence in key sectors, including education, healthcare, industry, and cloud-based infrastructure.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan emphasized the importance of cooperation with OpenAI, stating it could become a cornerstone in the development of Armenia’s artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Firebird, a U.S.-based cloud and AI infrastructure company, has received U.S. export approval and announced its first $500 million investment in Armenia. This is the launch phase of a multibillion-dollar megaproject aimed at establishing high-capacity AI supercomputing infrastructure in the region.
