The family and lawyer of Vicken Euljekjian, a Lebanese‑Armenian imprisoned in Baku, have for several days been warning that his health condition is worsening, saying he can no longer walk. His wife, Linda Euljekjian, said prison guards refuse to provide the medication prescribed by a doctor despite his leg pain and heart issues.
Responding to an inquiry, the Human Rights Defender’s Office said that the protection of the rights of Armenians detained in Azerbaijan, including Euljekjian, remains a priority, and relevant steps are being taken, but the office has no information suitable for public release, reports Pastinfo.
According to the Ombudsman’s office: “These details remain confidential due to the sensitivity of the matter. We emphasize that the Human Rights Defender’s staff is in regular contact with Vicken Euljekjian’s family as well as his lawyer. The various issues they raise — legal, social, and others — are addressed within the Defender’s mandate. We also note that if further information becomes suitable for publication, the Ombudsman’s Office will issue a public update.”
Vicken Euljekjian was captured on November 10, 2020, after the 44‑day war, while he and Lebanese‑Armenian Maral Najarian were traveling toward Shushi.
