Boris Navasardyan, a member of the Armenian delegation that recently visited Baku, stated during a press conference that they had asked Azerbaijani authorities for permission to visit Armenian prisoners of war but were denied. He clarified, however, that their main priority was progress toward the return of POWs, not just visitation.
“The issue of return is under discussion. It might be resolved to some extent; we’ll probably see soon when, how, and what kind of solution it will be. There are some details, but they’re not final, so I’d rather not disclose them,” said Navasardyan, as reported by Aysor.am .
He also noted that the emotional intensity surrounding POWs is mirrored in Azerbaijani society, where there is a belief that Armenian detainees bear responsibility for various events.
According to Azerbaijani media, prosecutors have requested life sentences for former Artsakh officials, including ex-president Araik Harutyunyan, ex-foreign minister Davit Babayan, former army commanders, and others. Additional sentences ranging from 16 to 20 years have been sought for other captives.
