Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan gave a brief overview via Facebook livestream on how citizens will be included in Armenia’s new state health insurance system and how to check one’s status.
Avanesyan explained that after verifying eligibility, individuals will receive an SMS notification informing them of their inclusion. To complete enrollment, the citizen must perform a confirmation action.
The minister illustrated the process using the example of a hypothetical 67-year-old woman named Anush.
“Using internal state electronic systems, it will be verified that Ms. Anush is an Armenian citizen, has resided in Armenia for at least 183 days in the past year, and is over 65. Based on these three criteria, she will be included in the list of insured individuals.
Ms. Anush must log into the armed.am website or mobile app and confirm her participation by pressing a single button. If she lacks digital access, her family doctor, outpatient clinic therapist, or nurse can assist her. And if none of these are possible, our family doctors and nurses will complete the confirmation on her behalf,” Avanesyan said.
Once the citizen’s confirmation is received, their insured status will be considered officially validated.
The government plans to launch the Universal Health Insurance system in January 2026. It will be universal but not all-encompassing, meaning it will apply to everyone but won’t cover everything.
