Deputy FM: peace talks with Azerbaijan ongoing

Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Mnatsakan Safaryan stated at a briefing that negotiations on a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan are ongoing, but no fixed timeline for signing has been set, Armenpress reports.

Safaryan noted that communication between the two sides is continuous.

Addressing the border delimitation process, he said it is being handled at the level of the two countries’ respective delimitation commission heads. “We always issue updates about developments in the process,” he said, adding that the delimitation work is proceeding without interruption.

When asked whether delimitation would continue in Syunik province, Safaryan replied that any developments will be officially announced.

As for the potential timing of the peace treaty’s signing, he reiterated that no specific dates can be given at this point.

On August 8, during a trilateral meeting at the White House with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a joint declaration was signed summarizing the outcomes of the Washington talks. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also initialed the “Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan” in the presence of their respective leaders and the U.S. president.
