Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has responded to the statement issued by a group of archbishops and bishops, announcing his readiness to hold a meeting with the clergy to understand their views in greater depth.
“There are clergymen in the Church who are truly devoted to fulfilling their spiritual mission. With their consent, I am ready to invite them to a meeting as early as today, to gain a deeper understanding of their positions,” Pashinyan said during a press briefing at the government headquarters, according to Panorama.am.
He stated that his position on the Church is well known, adding that he received the statement from the clergy with filial humility and concern, and welcomed it with determination and resolve.
The group of bishops and archbishops have called for the removal of Archbishop Arshak from the Mother See, accusing Karekin II of refusing and condemning what they termed his “misguided course.” They also claim Karekin II has broken the oath of his enthronement.
