The initiative of the meeting of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan was the official Baku’s. Azeri deputy foreign minister Araz Azimov has stated this in his interview in Washington. He said, in the course of the recent consultations between the personal representatives of Robert Kocharian and Heydar Aliyev in Prague, the proposal on holding of the meeting earlier had been introduced to the Armenian side. The Azeri diplomat expressed supposition that the conversation of Kocharian and Aliyev would take place within the framework of an international forum. The Azeri deputy foreign minister noted, initially, the meeting had been planned to be hold in Kishinev, where the two presidents should have arrived to participate in the summit of the heads of the CIS countries. But, the summit, planned in late May, was decided to postpone to October. Azimov stated that delay of meeting until fall would have been wrong, as it could have negative influence on the negotiation process. Proceeding from this, according to Azimov, Azerbaijan stated its initiative to hold the meeting earlier. It should be reminded, commenting the Paris talks results, the Armenian president informed the journalists about the forthcoming visit and then the Baku media accused him of violation of the agreement on the confidentiality of the information regarding the continuation of the conversation at the highest level.
