PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF COUNCIL OF EUROPE TO ESTABLISH INTERIM COMMITTEE ON KARABAKH

The expediency of establishment of a special structure-“Interim committee on Karabakh” as well as the issue regarding the reporter appointment will be discussed at the meeting of the political committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe that will take place May 28 in Luzern. The head of the secretariat of the PACE political committee Barsh Perin stated this yesterday. It is expected that PACE monitoring committee on Azerbaijan and Armenia reporters and representatives of the PACE political groups will be included in the committee. According to the chairman of the Azeri milli mijlis commission for international relations and intergovernmental relations Samed Seidov, there is not any concrete agreement on the establishment of the Interim committee on Karabakh yet. Nevertheless, he thinks it is possible that this will be decided in Luzern. At the same time Seidov noted, the establishment of the committee should be coordinated with Azerbaijani and Armenian delegations. The aim of the establishment of the Interim committee on Karabakh is more detailed study of the Karabakh issue by the Council of Europe. Most likely, the committee on Karabakh will start its work after the PACE fall session. Before this, the status of this structure, its mission, and the order of activities will be determined. It should be noted that the Interim committee on the issue of political prisoners in Azerbaijan has been already established within the PACE framework.
