Today former leader of Soviet Armenia Karen Demirchian would be 70. On the eve of his birthday a school in Yerevan Nor-Nork community was named after him. Demirchian headed the central committee of the Communist party in the course of 14 years, and was Chairman of the National Assembly of independent Armenia within the last months of his life. He became a victim of a terrorist act organized October 27, 1999, when five terrorists shot down 8 deputies and members of the country government in the parliament conference hall.
