AZERI PARLIAMENTARIANS NOT SECONDED INITIATIVE TO EXPRESS DISTRUST TO OSCE MINSK GROUP

Leader of Civil unity party of Azerbaijan, deputy of Milli Mejlis Igbal Agazade addressed the parliament session and suggested raising the question of expedience of suspension of OSCE Minsk Group activity and dismissal of its present contingent. He substantiated his idea by saying that Minsk Group US Ambassador Rudolf Perina constantly met with the representatives of the Armenian diaspora in the course of international arrangements. Minsk Group other Co-Chair – France – has officially recognized the fact of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey, and the third Co-Chair – Russia -officially cooperates with Armenia in the military sphere. Chairman of the Parliament Murtuz Aleskerov came out against the deputy’s initiative. In his words, “although the Azeri army possesses the opportunities to liberate the occupied territories,” now Azerbaijan “cannot refuse peace talks.” The majority of the parliamentarians supported him. As a result a decision was made not to include the question in the agenda.
