A monument to outstanding navigator, naval commander and admiral of Armenian origin Mikhail Lazarev has been erected in the village of Lazarevskoe in the Krasnodar Territory of Russia. As reported by “Yerkramas”, the newspaper of Armenians living in southern Russia, in the middle of the 19-th century Lazarev was at the head of the Black Sea Fleet and took active part in the creation of Russian military fortification of the Black Sea coastline. He personally managed the landing of Russian troops in the valley of Psakhe River, which later became an inhabited locality named after him.
