Recently the segment of the Armenian-Georgian state border next to the Jiliz wood is being illegally pushed into Armenia due to the efforts of the Georgian party. This was told at today’s joint session of the board of the National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia. “Arminfo” agency reports, the mentioned segment of the Armenian-Georgian border was situated on the edge of the wood and the Armenian territory began from the wood strip, while the open lot belonged to Georgia. But recently the illegal felling from the Georgian side moved the wood away into Armenia. Correspondingly, the Armenian border was also moved away. Armenian Minister of Environment Vardan Ayvazian noted at the session that at present active negotiations are being held with Georgian authorities to solve the problem of the illegal felling of the bordering Armenian wood. In the Armenian academicians’ opinion, it is first of all necessary to determine the line along which the state border is situated, and then to define the buffer zone.
