Over 50 activists of United Azerbaijan Union held an unauthorized picket in front of the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan. Baku information sources report, the action was held to protest against “Teheran regime claims for Alov perspective field in the Azeri sector of the Caspian, systematic trespass of the marine boundaries of Azerbaijan by the Iranian warships, Iran’s threats to the oil depositories of Azerbaijan as well as development of Armenian-Iranian cooperation.” In the Union activists’ opinion, Teheran’s all anti-Azeri activities and plans are caused by the gathering strength national-liberation movement of the Azeri population of Iran. The participants of the action passed a resolution to the Iranian Embassy officers, which in particular demands to abandon the threats addressed to Baku, to freeze Iranian-Armenian cooperation “until Armenia leaves the occupied territories of Azerbaijan,” to recognize the national rights of ethnic Azeris of Iran, including the right to form a nation-state.
