ARMENIAN DEFENSE MINISTER THINKS IN CONNECTION WITH EVENTS IN GEORGIA IT IS EARLY TO SPEAK ABOUT DESTABILIZATION OF SITUATION IN SOUTH CAUCASUS

“I think it is early to speak about destabilization of the situation in South Caucasus”, defense minister, the RA Security Council secretary Serge Sarkisian has stated regarding the recent events in Pankisi Gorge of Georgia. Though, in his words, there is some presence of American soldiers in Pankisi Gorge, first of all “it is necessary to find out the scope of that presence”. At the same time Serge Sarkisian has cited the statement of Russian President “if there is US military presence in the Middle Asia then why should not it be in the Caucasus?” The minister has also noted that Armenia is against new dividing lines in the region.
