ARMENIA DOES NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH EXTERNAL STATE DEBT SERVICE BEFORE 2010

If the basic trend of macroeconomic development is maintained, Armenia will not have any problems with external state debt service before 2010. International financial structures and donor countries came to such a conclusion at the seminar held in London and dedicated to the questions of economic growth, reduction of poverty level and the opportunities of serving the external debt by CIS member countries. Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy of Armenia Tigran Khachatrian told “Arminfo” agency about this upon his arrival from the capital of the Great Britain. In his words, the international experts’ positive estimate of Armenia’s solvency is based on a number of main macroeconomic indices. Thus, according to the international practice, a country appears in “the debtor’s prison” if its external debt exceeds 150% of its export, while this index in Armenia makes 135%. The cost of state debt service should not exceed 20% of the export, and this index for Armenia makes 10.5%.
