BAKU HAS TO NEGOTIATE WITH STEPANAKERT

Coming out with new proposals on Karabakh conflict settlement the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs should take into consideration a number of important factors. Chairman of the Social-Democratic party of Azerbaijan Zardusht Alizade stated it in the interview to «Zerkalo» Baku newspaper. He said those factors included the following, «Nagorno Karabakh is recognized Azeri territory, but de-facto the land is controlled by Armenia. Besides, Armenia has won the propagandistic war and it has many influential allies in the world.» So Z.Alizade considers that signing a peace treaty under the present conditions does not meet the interests of Azerbaijan. At the same time he came against conservation of the conflict, as that will make the national spirit of the Azeri people weaker. «I suppose that Baku in the person of the Minister of Internal Affairs should hold negotiations with the leaders of Karabakh separatists. The world has already had such practice: the English and Spain Governments in their time negotiated with the rebels. Yeltsin also carried on a dialogue with Maskhadov and Yandarbiyev. Official Tbilisi held negotiations with Abkhaz separatists. So there is no absurd in doing it,» – Alizade stressed.
