TURKEY REFUSES TO GIVE KURDS RIGHT TO BE TAUGHT IN THEIR NATIVE LANGUAGE

Turkey, fulfilling requirements of the European Union, might repeal the capital punishment, but it can not allow Kurds to be taught in their native language. It is stated in statement of Prime minister of the country Byulent Ecevit. The government notes that the fulfillment of the Kurds’ requirement will disrupt the country according to ethnic principle. The statement of the Premier was made immediately after EU high rank representatives’ criticism against the Turkish legislation for the issues of punishment and education of Kurds. During his two-day visit finished on Friday the EU commissar for the Union expansion issues Gyunter Verkhaygen had addressed Turkey’s authorities a call to improve the legislation of the country. The EU insists on prohibition of tortures and provision of guarantees for freedom of speech and the opportunity to be taught in other languages.
