ARMENIAN AND TURKMEN PRESIDENTS TO MEET SOON TO DISCUSS BUILDING IRAN-ARMENIA GAS PIPELINE

Armenian President Robert Kocharian and Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov plan to meet within a month to discuss the question of exporting Turkmen gas to Armenia through the territory of Iran. “Arminfo” agency reports Turkmen leader Saparmurat Niyazov has already stated the positive position of Ashkhabad in this regard. The Armenian party is interested in the supplies of the relatively cheap Turkmen gas, which costs $40-43 per one thousand cubic meters. At present Armenia is buying gas from “Itera” Russian concern at a price of $55 per one thousand cubic meters. It is expected to start building Iran-Armenia gas pipeline, which will supply Turkmen fuel to the Caucasus, before the year-end.
