Ankara has officially given up its claims for joining the European Union in 2004. According to Turkish vice Premier Mesut Ilmaza, “now Turkey has to mobilize its forces to become a European Union member in 2007”. It should be reminded that the European committee leaders have made statements for several times from which appears that it is not possible to speak about possible membership of Turkey in the European Union yet.
