On January 10 around 7:00 p.m., Armenian citizen Yeghishe P. Gevorgyan illegally crossed the Yeraskh- Nakhichevan section of Armenian-Azerbaijani border together with his wife (born: 1958) and three minor children (aged 7, 6 and 3). The trespasser violated the border regime in a Yeraz vehicle, notwithstanding the commands of frontier guards. Azerbaijani side opened fire, however, Armenian border guards refrained from such practice, considering the presence of minors. Relevant international humanitarian organizations were reported on the event.
Yeghishe P. Gevorgyan was formerly convicted for brigandage, automobile theft and other offences.
Law enforcement bodies have instituted a criminal case; the inquest is under way, RA Police Public Relations Department reported.
