Arrested January 26 and accused of parricide for Turkey Murad Bodjolian has met with his lawyer Ruben Balabanian. According to the lawyer, Bodjolian looked quite well but Balabanian could not answer if the charge was brought against his client at that moment and if his client pleaded not guilty. It should be reminded that Bodjolian is charged according to 59 article of the Criminal code that stipulates capital punishment or 10-15 year sentence for «parricide by espionage». As «Arminfo» reports with a reference to «Liberty» radio station, Bodjolian is quite a famous figure. He was born in Turkey. He and his family immigrated to Armenia. He graduated from Yerevan State University, department of oriental studies. He worked for the Institute of oriental languages of the National Academy of science of Armenia and started his work in MFA in early 90-ies. He worked as a translator for the first president Levon Ter-Petrosian’s administration. According to his colleagues, he had quite a soft position towards Turkey, he was a supporter of that the strict questions for Turkey were not raised and there were not strict articles having anti-Turkish nature. The people who know Bodjolian note that he has lived in very difficult conditions for last three years. He was engaged in trade: he sold goods imported from Turkey. It is rumored that Bodjolyan was arrested at the Armenian-Georgian border, on the bus leaving for Turkey.
