According to the NTV Russian TV channel, the arrested person was a member of a group which was preparing several terrorist acts in Jaroslavl and other cities of Povolzhie. He had a PM pistol, a RGD-5 bombshell, a disposable syringe and an ampoule with heroin. While searching his apartment, the law enforcement bodies found out several directories containing instructions about preparation of bombshells and organization of explosions, as well as how to place those bombs in public places. The law enforcement bodies are sure that the person is an expert in mines.
During the preliminary investigation it was established that the Azerbaijani citizen was preparing a terrorist act in one of the cinemas of Jaroslavl. The scenario reminds of the operation carried out by the Chechen terrorist in the Theatric Centre of Moscow in October 2002. The investigators examine this case in the context of the threats made by leaders of the Chechen bands saying that new terrorist acts will be organized. This is another proof of close ties between the Chechen terrorists and Azerbaijan.
It’s not a secret that the Azerbaijanis are actively participating in the planning and implementation of the criminal acts conducted by the Chechen terrorist structures against the peaceful citizens of Russia. There are lots of proofs. It is known that leaving the Pankisi Gorge, some of the soldiers of Gelayev moved to Azerbaijan. The field commander Khattab also used to “travel” passing through this country.
It has been revealed that a Jordanian terrorist fighting on the side of Chechens was being financed from Baku. Sergey Jastrzhembski, Assistant to President of Russia, said not long ago that there were proofs that the resources for Khattab’s soldiers were being accumulated in the capital city of Azerbaijan. Russian Special Forces have revealed that this man was receiving from Baku also big amounts of explosives, communication means, ammunition, and other equipment.
Russian MP Victor Ilyukhin also has information confirming the participation of Azerbaijan in supplies of arms to Chechen soldiers. The fact that the actions of Chechen terrorists were being directed from Azerbaijan became evident after the terrorist act in the Theatric Square of Moscow. It is well known that the leaders of bandits, Movsar Barayev and Abu Said, contacted Baku more than 15 times and received instruction. Through Baku they were contacting also their leader in Ichkera. It is interesting that according to the Kavkaz.org, a Chechen information portal, the Chechens living in Azerbaijan held in Baku “a mass action in support of demands of the Mojaheds”. We’ll note that the authorities were not even trying to prevent it.
The representatives of the political elite o Azerbaijan do not find it shameful that their citizens are participating in terrorist acts against Moscow. For example, the former adviser to the Azerbaijani President on Foreign policy, Vafa Guluzade, speks in support of Azerbaijanis going to fight in Chechnya. “Any Azerbaijani and any Muslim has the right to struggle for idea, for Islam. Being trained, he can go to fight in Chechnya or another country,” told Guluzade in an interview with Baku journalists.
These are the proofs of the fact that despite the friendly rhetoric of Heydar Aliyev, the Azerbaijani-Chechen tandem against Russia continues to strengthen. And judging from publications in Moscow newspapers, Russians have started to notice this.
