A “khachkar” (an Armenian monument in the form the cross) will be erected in the Russian town of Petrozavodsk, the capital of Karelia being devoted to the 300-th birthday of the town, June 24. As reported by the Russian sources, the monument made by sculptor Lyudvig Davidian on the initiative of the Armenian Diaspora of Karelia will be placed near Alexander Nevski Cathedral. In the words of the local Armenian community head Eduard Babaian, the “khachkar” will become a symbol of Armenians’ gratitude to the Karelian land and its people.
