EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN RELATIONS CALLED ON TURKEY TO RAISE BLOCKADE AGAINST ARMENIA AND RECOGNIZE FACT OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

Yesterday the European commission on foreign relations received the report on the EU attitude toward the South Caucasian Republics. The report was made ready by deputy from Sweden Per Gakhrton. The document includes the reports on social, economic and political situation in Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan as well as information on corruption level, the situation with human rights and freedom of speech. The resolution stipulates the suggestions to strengthen the EU policy in the South-Caucasian region.
Particularly, to encourage the intentions of Armenia and Azerbaijan to become the EU members, it is planned to open representatives of the EU in Yerevan and Baku. The resolution seconds the idea of the creation of Pact of stability in the Caucasus according to the example of Balkan republics. There is a call to Turkey to raise the blockade against Armenia and to recognize the 1915 Armenian genocide in one of the articles of the documents. The report accepted by the committee will be introduced for approval of the European parliament plenary session.
