In his interview to «Turan» news agency, member of the permanent delegation of Azerbaijan to the PACE, milli mejlis deputy Gulamhuseyn Alibeyli has expressed hope that non-fulfillment of the obligations undertaken by the official Baku will not entail strict sanctions at the forthcoming session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. According to his forecast, PACE will be satisfied with a decision of recommendation nature this time and only if there is the second neglect of the presented terms the question on further membership of the country in the Council of Europe will be raised. At the same time, according to his words, « the fact of consideration of the issue on political prisoners in the CE structures itself damages Azerbaijan’s image». Alideyli thinks, “an image of the country violating the rights of its citizens might be formed about Azerbaijan”. It should be reminded that the issue of Azeri political prisoners in on the agenda of the winter meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe beginning January 24.
