A mass scuffle between two groups of women – supporters and opponents of President Heydar Aliyev – took place in Baku. The female activists of the opposition Democratic Party held an unauthorized procession demanding to release political prisoners. A group of bellicose women scanning “Heydar, Heydar!” met them. Swearing between the two groups outgrew into an open fight. The confrontation, which continued for two hours, was occurring before the eyes of policemen, who intervened at times when it became more ferocious. As a result the law and order guards detained a few members of the Democratic Party, and broke the arm of party secretary Zhala Jafarova.
