HEAD OF TURKISH GOVERNMENT MET WITH HEAD OF CONSTANTINOPLE SEE OF ARMENIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH

Prime Minister of Turkey Bulent Ecevit has met with Constantinople Patriarch of the Armenian Apostolic Church, archbishop Mesrop Mutafian. As reported by Turkish mass media, Ecevit congratulated the Patriarch on the New Year and Christmas. Information agencies do not posses data on the content of the conversation. Let us remind that on the day of the meeting with Ecevit the head of the Constantinople See should have been in Etchmiadzin, where the sitting of the Supreme Clerical Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church was held. Mesrop Mutafian is co-chairman of the Council and had to preside the session. There are grounds for supposition that the political leadership of Turkey had hindered his visit to Etchmiadzin.
