A seminar-discussion devoted to family relations and a family’s role in society was held Wednesday in Yerevan. The event was organized upon the initiative of Khachatur Marozyan, Head of the International Association of Lawyers and Psychologists, who dwelled on the existing problems in Armenia and activities towards their solution.
The polls conducted by the organizations have revealed a 34% decrease of marriages and 39%-40% decrease of birth rate over the past 20-30 years.
“Such rate demonstrates the threats faced by our country,” Marozyan stressed, adding that 3 out of 10 court proceedings in Armenia are divorce suits, with 1 pursuing social goals.
“We want to restore the lost values to prevent a human being from becoming a social consumer,” he said.
At that, he noted that the Armenian Government and Prime Minister were proposed two projects: to declare a Family Day and celebrate it on state level and to launch relevant broadcast series on Public Television.
