The expanded sitting of the Supreme clerical council of the Armenian Apostolic Church started work in Holy Echmiadzin today. Both co-chairs of the Council – leader of Jerusalem and Constantinople altars, archbishops Torgom Manukian and Mesrop Murafian did not have the opportunity to participate in its work. (The political circumstances in Israel and Turkey had hindered their arrival.) This is why the oldest of the representatives of the Armenian clergy, archbishop Vache Hovsepian presided at the session. In his opening speech Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II appreciated the results of realizing the programs connected with the celebration of the 1700-th anniversary of adoption of Christianity by Armenia. Members of the Supreme clerical council have set about discussing the plans for 2002. Making some amendments in the Manual of the Armenian Apostolic Church is planned. Tomorrow the Supreme Council will continue work and will hear Catholicos report on the results of Echmiadzin activity in the course of the last 9 years.
