19-YEAR-OLD STUDENT ACCUSED OF ATTEMPT AT ARMENIAN PARLIAMENTARIAN’S LIFE

19-year-old student of Yerevan State Engineering University Varuzhan Gyurjinian is accused of attempted willful homicide of deputy of Armenian National Assembly Melik Gasparian. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, Gyurjinian, who had been convicted of hooliganism, is under arrest now. He admitted guilt and told the details of the attempt to the investigators, in particular, how and when was “Mitsubisi-Pajero” belonging to the deputy stuffed with explosives. It detonated at about 10 A.M. local time December 29, 2001 when Gasparian was getting into the car. Gasparian was not hurt only by a fluke. The prosecutor’s office filed a criminal suit against Gyurjinian the same day. In the words of the deputy himself, a financial dispute between him and Varuzhan Gyurjinian’s father became the motive of the crime. The inquest continues.
