A cell of “Hizbi-Tahrir” religious-extremist terrorist organization operating in Azerbaijan territory was revealed in the country. Six activists of the organization are arrested. Five of them are citizens of Azerbaijan and one – of Ukraine. The official Azeri sources report the group members were preparing terrorist acts against U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan and representations of international organizations in Baku. Books of religious-extremist nature, explosive assemblies and instructions for their use were discovered in the course of search in the flats of the arrested. Members of “Hizbi-Tahrir” aimed at provoking religious confrontation, implantation of their own people into the state bodies of Azerbaijan for subsequently seizing power. The organization had a goal of adaptation of secular laws to shariat norms and building a theocratic state in Azerbaijan. “Hizbi-Tahrir” is in close cooperation with “Muslim Brothers” well-known extremist organization.
