Multilingual online translator presented in Yerevan

A new multilingual online translator was presented Friday at the residence of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. The web-based tool enables translations between Western and Eastern Armenian languages, and English. The RA President stressed the need to provide state assistance for the further development of the online tool.

“Since the preservation of the Armenian identity and Armenia-Diaspora relations are on the RA President’s political agenda, we have decided to create a communication platform by bridging the Western Armenian and Eastern Armenian languages,” Armenian Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan said.

Developed since 2000, the online translator, which is currently available on www.translator.am, is now using a 55000-word-vocabulary and will be replenished furthermore. The entries can be simply words, or texts, the user should only choose the right direction of the preferred translation. But even in case of mistake, the texts will be translated into English.

Dr. Edward Manukyan, professor at Armenian State Engineering University, supervising the development of the tool said their goal is to improve the knowledge of Armenian language both in Armenia and Diaspora.
