Andre Dirrell: I have to try to get around Abraham’s defense

As the second stage of the Super Six tournament approaches, Andre Dirrell is putting together the perfect game plan to hand Arthur Abraham his first career defeat on March 6 at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, California. In his last bout, against Carl Froch, Dirrell felt he outboxed the WBC champion. He lost a split decision but now knows that his boxing ability is good enough to fight with anyone in the world.

“That really put me in a great state of mind,” Dirrell said to The Flint Journal. “It showed I can go 12 rounds, and it showed I can fight with anyone.

Besides his punching power, <b>Abraham</b>'s biggest weapon is his defense. Fighters find it very difficult to get through Abraham's shell. Dirrell plans to do a lot of body damage in the early rounds to force Abraham to drop his hands. He then plans to target the Abraham's head with accurate combinations.

"I am working on being precise and efficient with my punches. A lot of times when I make people miss, I get out of there. I need to stay in there and take advantage and keep the fight in the center of the ring. I just have to try to get around that [Abraham's defense]. It’s important to go to the body early and get those hands to drop, then capitalize on his mistakes. I have to beat him to the punch,” boxingscene.com cited Dirrell as saying.
