There are already 1250 members in the People’s Democratic Party of Armenia. Leader of the party, deputy chairman of the National Assembly Gagik Aslanian stated it at a press conference today. The party was registered a month and a half ago. The party founders are former prominent figures of the People’s Party, who left the latter’s ranks because of disagreement with its present leader Stepan Demirchian. Aslanian stated that the members of the party, who had been elected into the Parliament under the banner of “Unity” block that already fractured per se, did not intend to leave the still formally united fraction of the alliance. He noted the party was ready to bear the responsibility for the realization of “Unity” block program. Concerning the possibility of sharing responsibility for the Government activity, too, in Aslanian’s words, the party has already been offered ministerial portfolios, from which it abdicated.
