Congress on refugee problems to be held in Yerevan in autumn

The preparation of the upcoming congress on refugee problems in Yerevan was discussed in the Kotayk region of Armenia, press service of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration reported. The congress is aimed to attract funds from international donors to address the problems of refugees.

RA Deputy PM, Minister of Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgyan accompanied by the representative of the UNHCR Armenian office Bushra Halepota, Head of State Migration Service Gagik Yeganyan, officials of the RA MFA visited Kotayk region, got acquainted with reconstruction process of multi-storey social house in Qasakh.

Production facilities of a former factory, located in the community, are being reconstructed through financial support of Japanese Government to be turned into multi-storey social house for refugees and internally displaced persons. The social house is expected to be put into operation in May, 2010.

Interdepartmental working group will be established for proper organization of the congress in autumn. Currently 1300 most needy refugee families (950 families in Yerevan) are included in projects of the RA government, and more than 45 million USD is required to address their problems.
