AN ARMENIAN PARLIAMENTARIAN CONSIDERS YEREVAN SHOULD RENOUNCE FOUR MILLION DOLLARS ALLOCATED BY WASHINGTON FOR COUNTRY MILITARY NEEDS

Armenia should refuse the additional four million dollars, which the U.S. intends to allocate to the Republic as military aid. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, head of defense, national security and internal affairs commission of the Armenian Parliament Vahan Hovhannisian, who is member of “Dashnaktsutyun” party bureau, expressed such an opinion in the course of a meeting with journalists. In his words, Washington is trying to “throw dust in eyes” to prevent Armenia from responding to strengthening air force bases of Azerbaijan in Apsheron peninsula. The Parliamentarian noted the Armenian army could do without that sum not to become dependent on the U.S.A. The commission head stressed suspension of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act and the U.S. military and material aid to Azerbaijan could distort not only the fragile balance between Baku and Yerevan, but also the stability in the entire region of the Southern Caucasus. However, the Armenian military command is not very alarmed at this circumstance. Hovhannisian supposes this composure is conditioned by the fact that the authorities are well informed of the military potential of Armenia and Azerbaijan. “But the geopolitical situation may change so quickly that our internal military potential will appear insufficient for solving the originated problems,” – the Parliamentary said.
